What impelled the author to take up writing this book —rather compelling it — is the sad spectacle which the young hopefuls face while coming freshly from the colleges who are not able to crack simple cases, let alone the more complicated and difficult ones. They are in a vicious circle. Few patients prefer to come to an "inexperienced" doctor for treatment, and on the other hand unless the neophyte gets practical experience, he does not inspire confidence in patients.
