Dr B K Sarkar
Dr. B. K. Sarkar was born on December 27, 1901, in Chairman Sahi, Midnapur, West Bengal. He was part of a well-to-do family; his maternal grandfather served as an allopathic physician for the BN Railways. Dr. Sarkar was the second of six brothers, all of whom were highly educated and well-placed in their respective fields. This upbringing laid a strong foundation for his future academic and professional pursuits.
Contributions to Homoeopathy
Dr. Sarkar made significant contributions to various domains of homoeopathy, which are briefly mentioned below.
Contributions to education
1. Professor and Principal: He became Professor of Homoeopathic Materia Medica and Organon of Medicine in 1936, at Bengal Allen Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital.
He served as Principal of D.N. De Homoeopathic Medical College, Calcutta.
He was also the Principal and a Trustee Member of Midnapur Homoeopathic Medical College from 1944 to 1960.
2. Council Memberships: He was a member of the General Council and State Faculty of Homoeopathic Medicine, West Bengal, since its inception in 1942, and served as Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Homoeopathic State Faculty, for three terms from 1950 to 1960.
3. Organizational Involvement: Dr. Sarkar was active in various committees and conferences:
- Chairman of the Reception Committee of the Registered Homoeopathic Practitioners’ Conference, West Bengal in 1945.
- President of the Bihar Homoeopathic Science Congress,1953.
- President of All India Institute of Homoeopathy, 1953.
- Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Homoeopathic State Faculty for three terms from 1950 to 1960.
